Earth Day Ladybugs
Earth Day is coming up on April 22, 2010. Though we here at everything-ladybug.com love red little ladybugs, we are committed to going green.
Ladybugs are green pest control!
Ladybugs themselves though red on the outside are green in spirit. They are a form of green, organic pest control and very good for the earth and the ecosystem. You can learn more about how ladybugs are used as pest control here!
A family friendly Earth Day actitity with ladybugs too!
Right by our home there is an empty lot with lots of ladybug friendly flowers and weeds. We have lots of wind in our area and unfortunately litter gets carried over there and trapped in the plants. Recently we used this area as an opportunity to teach our daughters (ages 2 and 5) about the importance of keeping the earth clean.
The whole family put on gloves and cleaned up the trash. Afterwards we observed ladybugs and butterflies searching for food in the weed patches. This gave our daughters a sense of gratification knowing that they helped these little creatures. It also seemed to be a game for them; finding the hidden pieces of trash much like an egg hunt.
